Our carpet cleaning in Northern Virginia methods use environmentally-friendly cleaning solutions that are safe for both humans and pets.

OUR PROCESS

PRE-INSPECTION

A technician will walk through your home with you to visually inspect your carpet and potential permanent stains and recognize your concerns to give you an evaluation of expected results.

HOME PROTECTION

The technician will protect the surfaces in your home for the duration of the carpet cleaning in Northern Virginia. We will protect your hardwood floors and stairs with drop cloths and the corners of your walls with corner guards. This allows our technician to work safely in your home without the hoses damaging your surfaces.

FURNITURE MOVING

Our standard fee includes moving sofas, chairs, tables and other small items. We can also move beds, dressers and heavier pieces for an extra cost, which your technician can quote for you.

PRE-SPRAY AND SPOT

A pre-conditioning agent is applied to emulsify, or break down, the soil throughout the carpeting. Difficult spots on the carpet are pre-treated with special products uniquely designed to increase the chances of removal.

SOIL EXTRACTION AND RINSING

The carpet is then thoroughly rinsed with a powerful extraction cleaning system without over-wetting the carpet or leaving sticky residue behind. Every carpet we clean has a neutralizer applied so that it is pH-balanced. This will leave your carpet feeling soft and fresh.

POST SPOT TREATMENT

Any spots or stains remaining will get extra treatment with one of our many specialty spotting procedures.

POST-CLEANING INSPECTION

The technician will walk through your home with you to point out the cleaning results and make sure that you are satisfied with the job.

HOW LONG SHOULD WE WAIT TO HAVE OUR CARPETS CLEANED?

Imagine you have a newborn baby, a roaming toddler with a sippy cup full of a colored juice, or you’ve just given up trying to get your kids to take their shoes off at the door. Perhaps you’re the proud owner of a new puppy or kitten or are prone to asthma or allergies. Your carpets can act as an air filter, capturing dust, dirt, bacteria, pollen and dust mites, as well as their waste and the bacteria that feed on them in each of these situations.

How often to have the carpet cleaned could vary from house to house. However, most carpeting manufacturers recommend a professional cleaning every 6 to 18 months. No matter what mess you’re faced with, your carpet could end up getting dirty and needing a thorough cleaning from a professional in Northern Virginia.

We will treat your home with respect and make sure you are completely happy with our service, or it’s FREE!
FAQs

1. “How long does the carpet take to dry?

The normal drying time is anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. The carpet will only be damp to the touch. Depending on weather conditions, room temperature, air flow, and overall conditions this time can vary.

2. “How safe are your cleaning and protection methods?”

We use only the highest quality, environmental friendly, safest cleaning solutions on the market.

3. “Should I have my carpet steam cleaned or dry cleaned?

Most major carpet manufacturers recommend truck-mounted hot water extraction as the preferred method. Hot-water extraction done properly by a certified trained technician removes more soil and spots than dry cleaning methods.

If you have a situation that requires dry cleaning, Smart Choice Cleaning is experienced in various dry cleaning applications and can apply that method for you.

4. “What are those ugly black lines around the baseboards and under doorways?”

If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet. This soiling is called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a buildup has occurred.

This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. Can it be removed? Sometimes. With special products, time and effort, reasonable results can sometimes be achieved. To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum and wipe the edges of the carpeting on a regular basis. Be careful around the tack strip on the edge of the carpeting, it could nick your fingers!

5. “Can you get the pet odor out of my carpet?”

Pet odor is a very common problem. At Smart Choice Cleaning we can help you deal with your pet challenges. From minor problems to major headaches Smart Choice Cleaning can help find the solution that works best for you.

The problem with pet odor is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. This creates a problem that is multi-layered. The urine also provides for the growth of bacteria. This, in turn, contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber.

To eliminate this problem the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers effected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer may be applied. In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required. Even replacement of the carpet, however, cannot guarantee complete removal of the odor.

6. “Do you provide after hour and weekends service?”

Yes. For commercial ONLY we provide after hour service except six holidays in the year: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day,Thanksgiving Day, Fourth of July and Christmas day. For residential we operate Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
